'Abba Dabba Do

(Advent 98)  Large.  Large thick, pointed leaves have a bright yellow edge that widens with age.  Sun tolerant.   Sport of 'Sun Power'.  Lavender flowers.   This hosta just keeps getting better with age!

'Abby'

(Ruh 90)  Small.   This sport of 'Gold Drop' has green leaves with a gold margin.   Forms a neat low mound that is good for edging.   Lavender flowers.

'Abiqua Blue Crinkles'

(Walden West 99)  Medium.  This is a very fast growing hosta with blue corrugated cupped, almost round leaves.  Near white flowers.  Thick leaves make this one SLUG RESISTANT.   Grows best in filtered light.

'Abiqua Drinking Gourd'

(Walden West 89)  Large.  Blue-green leaves that are deeply cupped and heavily corrugated.  Near-white, bell shaped flowers.   Good substance makes this another SLUG RESISTANT hosta.

Abiqua Drinking Gourd

'Abiqua Elephant Ears'


 

(Walden West 99)  Very large.  30" tall x 5' wide at maturity!  One of the largest hosta cultivars in existence. Very large blue-green leaves have large "sculptured" leaves resembling elephant ears. Leaves can measure 17" long x 12" wide.  Upright mound with arching leaves make this one stand out.  Pale lavender flowers in mid summer.  Fertile.    This one has not been on the market for quite sometime.

'Abiqua Moonbeam'

(Walden West 87)  Large.  Sport of 'August Moon'.  Round, corrugated leaves with wide gold margins with blue-green centre.  Pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers.   Rapid growth rate.  Give this hosta some sun for best colour.

'Alakazaam'  PPAF CPBRAF

 

(Livingston)  Mini.   This seedling of 'Atom Smasher' is very flashy with long, narrow, tapered green leaves with bright yellow, ruffled margins in the spring.   Margins brighten to creamy white as summer progresses.   The leaves are held on stiff, horizontal petioles with a little arching, forming a horizontal mound.   Lavender flowers.

'Alex Summers'

 

Large-sized. 36" high x 20" wide.  Sport of H. 'Gold Regal'.  This upright growing hosta has blue-green to green leaves with a variable width, chartreuse to creamy yellow margin.   Sun tolerant.

'All That Jazz'

(O.Petryszyn 06) Large.  Large heart-shaped leaves with a clean, creamy-yellow margin.   Forms a majestic clump with a stately, spreading form.  Pale lavender flowers top the clump in midsummer.

'Allegan Fog'

Medium.  Shiny leaves have dark green margins and white centres are speckled with green especially in spring, hence the "foggy" look and name.   They green up by mid summer.   Lavender flowers.

'Alligator Alley'


 

NEW for 2013


Walters Gardens, Inc.) Aptly named, this medium to large sized hosta forms a coarsely textured mound of leathery, puckered, heart-shaped to round leaves of good substance. It is a wide-margined sport of the long-popular ‘Dick Ward’, which is named for one of the most accomplished Hosta breeders in the US. Its leaves display wide, blue-green margins with chartreuse centers that become yellow in summer. Near-white flowers appear atop chartreuse scapes in early summer.

'Alligator Shoes'

(Benedict/Hatfield NR)  Large.  Wedge-shaped leaves are frosty blue-green with a twist at the tip. Mature leaves have a rough, puckered texture with narrow white edges.  Lavender flowers.  This is one of those rare hostas that really stand out in any garden!

'(Anderson, NR)  Medium-sized. This is the center color of H. 'Stained Glass'.  Imerges a spectacular bright gold early and fades to a lovely green-gold in late summer.  Does extremely well in sun.   Fragrant near white flowers.

'American Hero'  PPAF

 

(Walters Gardens, Inc. 09)  Medium.   'American Hero' has a strong, bold variegation all season long.  It is a sport of 'Revolution' with wider, dark green margins and a creamy-white to pure white centre speckled with green.   Thick leaves form a very dense clump, and as the plant matures they become somewhat twisted.  Lavender flowers.  Walters Gardens has donated a portion of the proceeds to Project Evergreen for the US Troops.

'American Sweetheart'

(Hansen 02) Medium.  This is a tetraploid version of 'Sea Thunder'.   Green leaves, wide white centre, upright habit make this one a real centrepiece of your garden.  Named after the hosta queen Mildred Seaver.  She's a beauty!

'Americana'

 

(Walters Gardens, Inc. 06)  Medium.  A wide margined sport of 'Loyalist' with thick leaves that display deep green jetting margins and a nearly pure white, narrow centre. Pale lavender flowers appear on 20" scapes in midsummer.

(Hans Hansen) Large. 19-22” tall x 32” wide. Unique tri-colour hosta. Upright mound of leaves are corrugated, puckered, folded and ruffled at the base.   Glaucous blue-green, rounded leaves have a showy wide, feathery, white centre with green jetting between the centre and the margin. White colour extends all the way down the leaf petioles and up the flower scape. Pale lavender flowers.

'Ann Kulpa'

 

 

 

 


 

(J. Kulpa, 1999) Medium sized hosta, 18" high x 44" wide. The striking variegation. The large heart-shaped leaves have a clean white center, with a chartreuse overlay where the center and green margin overlap. Pale lavender flowers top the fast growing hosta in midsummer. (Zilis, 2009) Mini.   6" high x 14" wide sensational miniature-sized mound of apple-green foliage and attractive late season flowers; Hybrid of a gold sport of ‘Blue Dimples’ X ‘Shining Tot’ (2009 AHS registration)   Green leaves 3 1/2" long by 2 1/4" wide; leaf color bright yellow in spring, changing to apple green by early July.   Pale purple flowers.

'Arctic Blast'

(Carlson)  Large.   This cool frosted blue hosta has thick leaves with wavy margins, a twisted tip, and white undersides.   An upright, vase-like habit makes this one very distinctive.   Trumpet-shaped, lavender flowers are produced in mid-summer. 'Komodo Dragon' x 'Elvis Lives'.

'Aristocrat' PP#11286

(Walters Gardens, Inc. 97)  Medium.  Thick, rich blue, wide slightly cupped leaves with very irregular creamy-white margins jetting towards the middle.   Dimpled edges are slightly rippled.   Sport of 'Hadspen Blue'. Lavender flowers.    Worthy of its name!

'Autumn Frost' PPAF

 

(Walters Gardens, Inc.)  Medium.  This new selection, backed by phenomenal lineage, really has that WOW factor!  Sport of 2010 Hosta of the Year 'First Frost' which in turn is a sport of the champion of blue hostas 'Halcyon'.   It is a showier version of 'First Frost' displaying extra wide margins.   The leaves emerge frosty-blue with a bright yellow margin that lightens to creamy white during the summer.   It forms a medium sized mound topped with light lavender flowers in mid to late summer.

(Zilis)  10” high x 22” wide; small blue hosta with leaves 5 ½” long by 3 1/8” wide; medium blue-green color; slightly wavy; good substance  Hybrid of a gold sport of ‘Blue Dimples’ X ‘Shining Tot’; selected for its good blue foliage color, vigor, and small size.  Pale purple flowers from late August into early September on 16” scapes.
