'La Donna'

 

 

Small. 8" hign x 20" wide. A tetraploid sport of H. 'Dinky Donna' with chartreuse foliage. The heavy, heart-shaped leaves hold up nicely and should brighten up with a little sun. Hosta 'La Donna' forms a tight little clump. It is so new, exact dimensions are still unknown. Pale lavender flowers bloom in early summer.

‘Lakeside Baby Face’

(Chastain, 97)  Small-sized, 4” high x 8” wide, heart shaped leaves are dark green with a flat creamy white.  This hosta is delightful in the front of the border.

(Chastain, 97) Medium-sized.  This blue hosta has leaves with a white back.  Makes a rugged massive clump. Red-purple shows on the petioles, The clump is topped with near white flowers.

‘Lakeside Paisley Print’  PPAF

 

(Chastain) Medium-sized.  10-12” high x 24 wide.  One of the most stunning hostas to come from Mary Chastain!  This spectacular hosta produces thick substance, heart-shaped leaves with very wide, wavy, green margins.  The narrow, creamy white markings in the centre of the leaves shoot out from the cream coloured petioles in a feathery pattern.
Light lavender flowers.   This one is exquisite!   Plants are small.

(Chastain, 97)  Medium-sized.  These unique leaves have veins the same creamy shade of their ruffled border. The creamy white is contrasted with a refreshing golden lime leaf.  This hosta was named as the flowing ruffled leaves reminded Mary Chastain of a party dress!!

‘Lakeside Rhapsody’

 

(Chastain 95) Medium-Large-sized.  Magnificent colour and substance.   Upright clump. The blue heart-shaped leaves have an uneven wide white margin. Nicely proportioned scapes carry white flowers. The centre of the leaf becomes greener as the season progresses. The leaf is broadly ovate with a cordate base.

(Engler 1888/AHS 1993) Small - medium.  12" high x 20" wide.  Green lance-shaped leaves. Increases rapidly. One of the earliest hostas to come up in spring, it is often used as an edger. Purple flowers.

‘Lederhosen'

(Herb Benedict, NR)  Medium.  Thick elongated leaves have a wavy margin and form a nice mound-shaped plant. Beautiful fragrant lavender flowers in late summer.  'Lederhosen' is German for "Leather Britches" and the tough leather-like substance of the foliage reminded the late Dr. Benedict of the name.

‘Little Jay’

(Jan van den Top) Mini-sized.  Long narrow leaves are slightly folded with a creamy-white centre and a blue-green border.  Very sharp contrast easily identified in a garden as it is different from any other mini.  Leaves are thick and have a dull finish.  Dark lavender flowers. (Van Wyk) Mini.  Emerges light green with misting and some streaking.  Changes to a dark green with the misting still visible.  Flowers are lavender and she is fertile!   Does well in morning sun.

‘Little Miss Sunshine’




(Scheer) Small-sized.  In the spring, the foliage emerges chartreuse but intensifies to bright gold as the season progresses.  It tolerates some sun which helps to bring out the yellow coloring.  This is a refreshing change from many gold hostas which turn green later in the season. Light purple flowers are held on wonderfully contrasting, deep wine red scapes in midsummer.   
This cute wavy leafed, gold is a fast grower that is sure not to disappoint!

'Lizard Lick'



(Franks 2007) Small. 12” high x 18” wide. This fast growing, spiky mound has long, narrow green leaves with good substance. Slightly bigger than a mini, it is tough enough to flourish in the garden with the “big boys”. Lavender flowers in July and August. H.  ‘Pineapple Poll’ seedling.   Very distinctive and unique.
