'Radiant Star

 



(C. Wilson 2007)  Small-sized.  This dark centred sport of H. ‘Radiant Edger’ has heart shaped leaves edged by a wide, gold margin.  This little hosta will look good all season and quickly forms a dense mound of lightly cupped foliage.  Pale lavender flowers in early summer.   Limited quantity.

‘Rainbow’s End’

(Hans Hansen/Shady Oaks Nursery, 05) Small-sized.  This yellow-centred sport of 'Obsession' features very thick, rubbery-like dark green leaves with a lighter central flare. The bright yellow centre becomes white by summer. Large lavender flowers open in late summer on red flower scapes. With its smaller size, 'Rainbows End' is suitable for the front of the border.

‘Rainforest Sunrise’

(Jim Anderson, 03) Medium-sized, 10” high x 16” wide clump.  This emerald green edged sport of H. Maui Butter Cups has the same butter yellow leaves. Thick glossy leaves are very resilient throughout the season.

'Rare Breed'


 

 

(Livingston)  20" high x 24 - 30" wide.  Rare tri-colour leaves make this giant hosta incredibly unique and showy.  The colour changes a bit with the seasons, starting off with a creamy white centre and green margins.   Where the center and margin meet, a beautiful shade of army green appears and the centre brights to a crisp white.   The leaves are slightly cupped when they are mature. Semi-upright clump.  Pale lavenders flowers mid to late summer.

'Raspberry Sundae'

(Terra Nova Nurseries)  Small.   8" - 10" tall x 16" wide.  This striking hosta has thick, glossy dark green leaves with a creamy white centre.  You will see red speckling coming into the leaf.   Dark raspberry coloured stems.  Purple flowers.

'Red Dog'

(Terpening)  Medium.  Long, narrow, wavy and shiny green leaves are held in an upright manner showing off the lovely cherry-red petioles!   Vigorous.   Lavender flowers.

(Hans Hansen, 06) Medium-sized, Wedge-shaped, wavy leaves have slightly serrated edge & cupped leaf base.  Upright clump with pale lavender flowers.

‘Rhinestone Cowboy’

(Elslager 00) Medium-sized. 17" high x 46" wide.  This hosta has a white margin with chartreuse in the centre, slightly rippled; thick substance.

‘Rhino Hide PPAF’

(Rawson)  Medium-sized.  20” high x 30” wide. Leaves of extremely thick substance have wide, blue margins and a narrow, light green centre that brightens to yellow.  They are cupped and puckered, forming a medium to large sized clump in the landscape.  White flowers top the scapes in early to midsummer.  “The texture and substance of the leaves remind you of a rhino’s hide—thick and unusual” is how it was described in the AHS Hosta Journal (vol. 39 No.1 “Slugs and Substance”).  Slugs can’t touch ‘Rhino Hide’ PPAF!  You have to feel it to believe it!

'Ringtail'

(Kent Terpening, 2005) Medium.  Leaves have long, dark green, lance shaped leaves with very wavy edges with curled tips.  Pale lavender flowers in late summer.

'Ripple Effect'

(Walters Gardens/Amy Bergeron/E. Elenbaas 2008)  Small.  8" tall x 15" wide.  'Ripple Effect' is just about the coolest 'June' sport imaginable. The long, narrow, wavy, gold leaves have a wild twisting and curling that is just incredible! Add that form to the wonderful coloring of 'June', and you have the makings of one of the best hostas ever!

‘Riptide’

(Sellers, 87) Large-sized, 20" high x 3’ wide.  The thick, flattened, blue-green leaves are heavily corrugated and backed with white.  In August 2' scapes of lavender flowers top this gorgeous hostaPurple scapes.  Used in breeding programs; list includes - ‘Purple Haze’, ‘Purple Boots’, ‘ Red Cadet’, ‘Peacock Strut’

‘Risky Business’

(T. Avent/H. Hansen, 02) Large-sized, 20" high x 50” wide. This is a mutation of the popular H. 'Striptease'. It has a pure white centre. The contrast is amazing,   In midsummer, the clump sports 2' tall scapes of violet flowers. 
Once you have seen this, you just have to add it to your collection!!!

‘Rootin Tootin’

(Ziarek, NR) Small to Medium-sized.  12” high x 24” wide.  Dark green leaves have lime green jetting into the narrow, creamy white centre (yellow in spring). Some green speckling is present in the centre. The leaves are thick and corrugated,

‘Rosedale Blend Master’


(Hadrava, 2000)  Medium-sized.  18” high x 22” wide.  A streaked seedling from Jerry Hadrava's garden. Rosedale Blend Master has yellow streaks on green leaves changing to white streaks in summer. Light lavender flowers on 22 inch scapes.

‘Roy Klemn’

(H. Hansen, Reg. Pending) Large-sized.  This tetraploid features an upright vase-shaped habit, with leaves displayed horizontally. The yellow leaves are framed by a dark green margin significantly wider than 'Summer Serenade'. Lavender flowers top the clump in midsummer.  Tetraploid.  Asexual propagation prohibited by law.

'Royal Flush'



(Bob Savory 1985) Medium. 18" high x 30" wide.  Wide tapering leaves arch on long petioles. Each leaf is similar in appearance to H. montana 'Aureomarginata' but with an olive-green center pattern surrounded by a tremendously wide butterscotch yellow border. The clumps are topped with 30" scapes of light lavender in early summer. 


This hosta is growing in full sun and does not burn or fade out.
